High-speed steel tube is seamless hollow bar for tool holders, boring and trepanning bars, mandrels and wear sleeves. We supply M2, M35 and M42, annealed or cold-drawn, in straight lengths.
What Is High-Speed Steel Tube?
High-speed steel tube is seamless hollow bar that gives the red-hardness of HSS in a round, hollow section. It is used where a tool must be both hard and hollow — tool holders, boring and trepanning bars, mandrels and wear sleeves.
We keep M2, M35 and M42 as seamless tube, annealed or cold-drawn, and cut to length.
High-Speed Steel Grades Available as Tube
These high-speed grades are available as tube:
| Grade | Standard | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| M2 | ASTM A600, EN ISO 4957 | General turning, milling and drilling tools |
| M35 | ASTM A600, EN ISO 4957 | Cobalt grade for harder cutting |
| M42 | ASTM A600, EN ISO 4957 | Max red-hardness, aerospace & hard alloys |
Size Range and Tolerances
Tube is supplied from 10 mm to 200 mm OD, with wall 1–20 mm. Size and tolerance are confirmed per order:
| Outside Diameter | Wall | Length | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 – 40 mm | 1 – 5 mm | 2 – 6 m | Annealed |
| 40 – 100 mm | 2 – 10 mm | 2 – 6 m | Cold-drawn / Annealed |
| 100 – 200 mm | 5 – 20 mm | 2 – 6 m | Seamless / Annealed |
| Cut lengths | per drawing | per drawing | Sawn |
Surface Finish and Delivery Condition
Tube delivery conditions:

Applications of High-Speed Steel Tube
HSS tube as rotating tool shanks.
Hollow bars for deep-hole tools.
HSS tube for expanding and forming mandrels.
Hard hollow sleeves for worn shafts.
HSS tube as small rollers.
Hollow HSS spindles for tooling.
Quality Control and Mill Certificates
Every Tube order ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate covering heat chemical analysis and the mechanical and dimensional checks on record. We add, on request: ultrasonic or magnetic-particle inspection, hardness mapping, straightness and flatness checks, decarburisation or surface-depth checks, and third-party inspection (SGS / BV) at the mill or before loading. Dimensions are verified to the relevant EN / ASTM / JIS standard or your drawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the HSS tube seamless?
Yes — seamless hollow bar, with cold-drawn, honed and ground options.
What is the largest tube OD?
Up to 200 mm OD as seamless; larger on request.
Which grade for a tool holder?
M2 for general holders; M42 where the hardest shank is needed.
Is the tube annealed?
Annealed as standard, ready for machining and hardening.
Can you cut tube to length?
Yes, sawn or machined to your length and quantity.
