Tool steel strip is cold-rolled flat product for rule dies, blades, saws, spring clips and laminations. We supply A2, D2, H13, O1, M2, DC53 and S7, annealed or hardened-and-tempered, in coils.
What Is Tool Steel Strip?
Tool steel strip is cold-rolled to tight thickness and flatness and supplied annealed for blanking or hardened-and-tempered for directly assembled cutting edges. It is the basis for rule dies, knife and saw strip, and thin laminated tooling.
We keep the full tool range as strip — A2, D2, H13, O1, M2, DC53 and S7 — with controlled edge and decarburisation-free surface where the application needs it.
Tool Steel Grades Available as Strip
These tool-steel grades are available as strip:
| Grade | Standard | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| A2 | ASTM A681, EN ISO 4957 | Cold-work punches, dies, blades |
| D2 | ASTM A681, EN ISO 4957 | Long-life cutting and forming tools |
| H13 | ASTM A681, EN ISO 4957 | Aluminium & hot-work dies, extrusion |
| O1 | ASTM A681 | Oil-hardening precise tools and gauges |
| M2 | ASTM A600, EN ISO 4957 | General high-speed cutting tools |
| DC53 | JIS G4404, EN ISO 4957 | High-toughness cold-work dies |
| S7 | ASTM A681 | Shock-resisting tools, hot shearing |
Size Range and Tolerances
Strip is rolled from 0.1 mm up to 6 mm. Tolerance tightens for thinner stock:
| Thickness | Width | Thickness Tol. | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.1 – 0.5 mm | ≤ 200 mm | ± 0.01 mm | Annealed / HT |
| 0.5 – 2 mm | ≤ 300 mm | ± 0.02 mm | HT / Annealed |
| 2 – 4 mm | ≤ 300 mm | ± 0.03 mm | HT / Annealed |
| 4 – 6 mm | ≤ 300 mm | ± 0.05 mm | Annealed / HT |

Applications of Tool Steel Strip
Strip bent and hardened into rule-die profiles.
Hardened-and-tempered strip for blades.
Band and circular saw strip.
High-strength strip formed into clips.
Thin strip stacked into tool cores.
Accurately sized tool strip.
Quality Control and Mill Certificates
Every Strip order ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate covering heat chemical analysis and the mechanical and dimensional checks on record. We add, on request: ultrasonic or magnetic-particle inspection, hardness mapping, straightness and flatness checks, decarburisation or surface-depth checks, and third-party inspection (SGS / BV) at the mill or before loading. Dimensions are verified to the relevant EN / ASTM / JIS standard or your drawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you supply hardened-and-tempered tool strip?
Yes, with a finished edge for blades and rule dies.
What thickness tolerance can you hold?
From ±0.01 mm on thin strip up to ±0.05 mm thicker.
Which grade for a long-life saw strip?
D2 or M2 for wear; A2 for toughness.
Is the strip annealed?
Annealed as standard for blanking, with HT option.
Do you stock H13 and S7 strip?
Yes — H13 for hot-work strip, S7 for shock-resisting edges.
